June 2008

In October of 2002 I joined with my VP Engineering and my VP Marketing and sales and founded Argon Security Technologies Inc., a company focused on developing rapid deployment wireless surveillance systems for first responders (SWAT, fire, ambulance, paramedic, paramilitary and military operatios).

In June of 1999 Merlin Software Technologies Inc. was registered as a Nevada Corporation as a commercial Linux software developer, focusing on data backup and recovery, business continuation software and linux fax server and client applications. In January of 2000 Merlin Software Technologies Inc. was acquired in a reverse takeover by Merlin Software Technologies International Inc. and went public in a successful IPO trading as high as $10 per share from an initial price of $1.50. As President and C.E.O. I was responsible to the Board for all aspects of the operation of the company. Having assembled an independent Board and a great management team, we transitioned from developing Linux software into manufacturing network attached storage appliances and digital surveillance and by the first quarter of 2002 were growing revenues at more than 50% quarter over quarter.

I began my management training at the retail school of management a la Radio Shack Corporation. I spent a total of five years with Tandy Corporation UK (Radio Shack UK) in various positions including Retail Store Manager, Computer Service Representative, Regional Computer Store Manager, Regional Computer Sales Manager and, immediately prior to leaving Radio Shack Canada to start my own software engineering company I was offered the position of Western Region Computer Sales Manager.

I started B.O.S.S. Systems Inc. in August of 1986 and, with my wife, ran that company as a software consulting, design and development group with as many as 25 employees. Concurrently, we used one of the products the company developed to run a medical service bureau providing billing services to medical practitioners. I was elected the founding President of the B.C. Medical Software Vendors Association in 1988, a position I held for two years.

In 1995 I founded an Internet service provider with three partners. After taking on an additional partner I arranged the sale of the company to a larger competitor in 1997. Acting as President, I was the only partner actively engaged in the operation and management of the company and was completely responsible for all operations.

In late 1997, with over 17 years in the industry, I investigated the opportunity presented by the acceptance of the Linux operating system and began pursuing funds to found a startup. While in the process of funding Merlin Software Technologies Inc., I continued to act as Chief Information Officer for Equity Retirement Savings System, a loyalty card provider. My responsibilities at Equity included business analysis, process analysis, complete information systems specification, design and development team management. I had budget responsibility across IT and operations. I remained active with ERSS for two months after arranging seed funding for Merlin Software Technologies was completed.

In addition to attending executive training sessions on a regular basis I have done extensive reading, particularly in Harvard publications regarding leadership, financial management, technology, corporate management and development etc. to ensure that I am up to date with the latest thinking.
